In a competition-style assignment, several groups of student-consultant teams will develop an action plan that addresses a leadership or management challenge your organization currently faces.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Phase 1 - Project Plan: Students will connect with organization representative(s) to devise the project scope and prepare a detailed plan for completion of the project.

Phase 2 - Project Execution: Students will work on deliverables outlined in the project plan. Teams will periodically communicate with organization representative(s) as needed to complete project tasks.

Phase 3 - Outcome: Students will submit a detailed report (2500 to 3000 words) on the outcomes of the project. The best reports will be provided to you for selection of the winning team.

Project Examples

Beginning this fall, student-consultant teams will spend approximately 100 hours per group understanding an organizational challenge you are facing and developing a strategy to help address it.

Based on information you provide, consultant teams will deliver an action plan that considers your unique circumstances and outlines a path to more efficient and productive organizational outcomes.

Project examples may include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing a significant organizational change or restructuring.
  • Reducing employee turnover or absenteeism or increase workplace safety.
  • Integrating cultures in a merger or acquisition.
  • Redesigning an internal system or process including hiring, socialization, compensation, motivation, team management, learning, and training.
  • Developing a plan to re-imagine your mission, vision, and purpose and roll it out to employees.
  • Assessing your organizational structure's fit with your organization's strategy.
  • Developing a plan to increase diversity and its' positive effects in your organization.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Create a detailed scope document for the student groups' use.

Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Minimum of 2-4 interactions with the students remotely (approximately 4-6 hours over the duration of the project).

Provide a dedicated contact who will be available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions or provide additional information.

Must be willing to work with multiple student groups (each group will have a communication lead).

Kick off the project with a 1-2 hour interview with your student groups.
