Learner goals and capabilities

Are you looking for an Administrative Professional (AP) student to assist you with your daily workload? The students from the Bow Valley College Administrative Professional Certificate program will work with your team to perform a variety of assigned administrative tasks.

• Students are available 3x/year – January, May or September and must meet strict prerequisites to be eligible for placement

• Field placements are unpaid and designed to be mutually beneficial for both host and student

• Field placement experiences may be in-person or virtual

• The student is required to complete 140 hours (four weeks, full-time)

• The host is requested to provide a designated workstation and a variety of duties relating to the student’s education, plus training, supervision, and mentorship

• A performance evaluation will be provided to the supervisor for completion and returned to Bow Valley College at the conclusion of the field placement

Project Examples

The Administrative Professional Certificate is an 8-month program designed to prepare students to meet the demands of an office administration role. Students learn software applications, keyboarding, administrative procedures, and communications. There is a strong emphasis on professionalism and interpersonal skills.

What can our students do for you?

Students will work on multiple tasks/projects, which may include, but is not limited to:

· Handle outgoing and incoming emails

· Prepare meeting materials and key in documents (letters, reports, etc.)

· Manage social media accounts

· Electronic filing

· Complete assigned projects

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Provide student with an evaluation at the end of the field placement experience

Allow for a mid-term check in meeting half way through the field placement experience between Career Services placement lead and the host.

Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions.

Be available for a quick phone call with the placement lead to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.
